Hartsdale Fire District

Just after 11am Fairview Car 2121 requested a Squad response for a car into a building that required structural shoring. Hartsdale Engine 171, Car 2174, and Squad 6’s collapse trailer responded from Hartsdale. Greenville Fire Squad 15 and Squad Support Unit 15 responded and operated with Hartsdale and Fairview Units. The damage to the structure and its load bearing elements were significantly damaged. The members of all three departments established a safe area and split into teams. One team operated as the cutting table team that was responsible for cutting various pieces of lumber into the correct lengths to construct shoring. Team Two operated as the exterior team shoring outside the structure and Team Three operated as the interior shoring team.

The teams initially placed Paratech rescue gold struts as temporary shoring that provided a safe operating area while members constructed wood shoring that would remain in place until permanent repairs could be made. The Paratech set up time greatly reduced the time members were operating with an unsupported building. These struts were from the light USAR kit that was delivered the day before this incident. Members were in the process of inventorying them at the time of the response.
