West Mead #2 Volunteer Fire Department

On August 19, 2018 at 13:17 West Mead #2 VFD & Meadville Ambulance were dispatched to 21481 Fisher Rd for a man trapped under a vehicle. LT Youngs and FF/RN Simmons responded to the scene and found a man completely under a Jeep Commander and struggling to breath. The Jeep had rolled off the ramps while the man was working on the vehicle. Upon arrival of Rescue Engine 29-8 LT Youngs ordered stabilization and the Paratech Air Bags. 29’s crew performed hazard control and placed the Paratech Air Bags. The vehicle was lifted and the patient was extricated in minutes from on-scene. While rescue operations were ongoing members of West Mead 2 and Meadville Ambulance were initiating patient care. The patient was flown by STAT MedEvac to UPMC Hamot and admitted in critical condition. Though his injuries were severe he is expected to make a full recovery. This life would not have been saved without a quick response and easy to use Paratech Air Bags.
