On the morning of April 15th, 2024 units were dispatched to a MVC rollover. Upon arriving crews, unfortunately determine the occupant had passed away during the incident. Crews used Struts on the bottom side of the vehicle to stabilize, and hydra fusion struts on the topside. The hydra fusions were use to lift/push the vehicle back onto the bottom side struts to gain access to the occupant which while still seat belted in the seat was also pinned under the “B” post. Once stabilized and secured crews were able to remove part of the roof and part of the “B” post to free the occupant.

This incident was unique for us due to the positioning of the vehicle on the driver’s side and located down in a ditch. Without the ability of the hydra fusions to be able to lift/push the vehicle back, crews would have been forced to remove more of the vehicle and potentially causing unnecessary harm to the occupant. Unfortunately the occupant was deceased upon our arrival. But this incident allowed crews to utilized rarely used equipment and to think though the incident.

As acting Battalion Chief during this incident I was extremely proud of my crews working through this difficult situation. Kudos to Holly Springs Station 2 C-shift.
