Westview Trench Trailer 32 and support members were dispatched to a trench collapse at 150 E. Main St. at Byrnes High School. Reports were received that two persons working in the trench were covered in dirt after the bench gave away while they were inside.
Upon arrival, units confirmed that two persons were trapped and buried up to their neck. All personnel on scene quickly devised a plan and put it into action. The equipment off of our trench trailer including the Paratech Struts lead to shoring the trench to were rescue personnel could enter to perform the rescue work. After only two hours of working and shoring the trench, the workers were able to be extricated from the trench. One was transported by ground for evaluation and the other was air lifted to the local trauma center. Both persons were released from the hospital with minor injuries. All personnel on scene played a crucial role in the rescue of the two employees who appeared to have very little survival chance. Members Involved
