Howells Fire Company

On 3/24/24 at 2023hrs the Howells Fire company was dispatched to a reported 1 car rollover motor vehicle accident at 640 shoddy hollow road. Asst chief Lee and Asst chief Howell arrived on scene simultaneously and located a car on its roof with the occupant still in it. Upon further investigation the chiefs on scene realized the driver’s arm was also pinned under the roof of the car and severely bleeding. Squad 111 and Ladder 113 arrived and began stabilizing the car to prepare for a lifting operation. Members utilized Paratech gray struts and chain to set up a chain basket on the rear of the overturned car. Once the car was stabilized members lifted the car using 2 hurst 32in spreaders (one hydraulic and one Edraulic tool) so the patient’s arm could be freed from under the roof. While the car was being lifted all progress was captured with the struts as well as wood cribbing. Once the lifting operation was complete the driver’s door was then removed using the hurst spreader and cutter to access the patient and free them from the vehicle and be turned over to Ems. From the time of dispatch till the time the patient was freed from the car was 22 minutes.
